Dirty dirty games!

Yahoo India and Web Dunia are now playing the dirtiest of all games. Remember how a few Brits could divide us based on our cast, religion and even skin colour and could rule India for 100+ years?

The same game is unfolding right before your eyes.

First they send their 'sailors' to create a ruckus between bloggers implanting ideas like, Why should Yahoo reply or even apologize? We have removed the contents you see? They thought we all are dumb, especially being a bunch of girls. Oh, the jokes that would have gone around about us in their cubicles!

Okay, that didn’t work!

Then they send their trolls, insulting many bloggers out there who supported us, very well knowing, we are ‘Indian girls’, we cannot stomach insults and we would cow down! I haven’t read so much filth which were put as ‘comments’ in my entire life. It caused me a lot of pain and anger and tears, especially when I saw the same type of filthy comments on couple of my friends blogs too! I, one time even thought of just disappearing from it all. It was that bad. But did we cow down?

We didn’t!

Now, all that has failed and whats on their cards?

They emailed couple of people about having a ‘discussion’ at an obscure Wordpress blog about this on March 2nd, that is tomorrow. What’s the great idea behind that? Drown the March 5th Event, make bloggers fight among themselves and make this whole thing look like a circus. I am not going to even join the circus. Why should I even participate in this mockery of a discussion? First of all, I don’t like circus! :) and secondly I am not an idiot! (even tho' couple of people might disagree on that part) :)

So here we are, all ready for the Event on March 5th. Our sounds might be a little weak, a little hasty, but we will make sure we are heard!

Inji,

I am amazed that Yahoo has been lurking behind the shadows during most of this discussion. Yahoo needs to stand up straight, admit that they messed up in selecting ‘Web Dunia’ as their content provider and tender an apology.

The question is not who is to blame – the real question is who is legally liable and has the social responsibility to ensure that the product (website in this case) is one of innovative thought. For e.g. say I publish a book and am accused of plagiarizing some research material. I turn my back to the accusation and claim that the intern who worked for me was responsible for collecting the research content and hence is the responsible party.

HOW SWEET!!! – If this was acceptable then any layman can publish a book by outsourcing research content to a graduate in China, India.

What surprises me further is – if Yahoo had a clause on their contract with ‘Web-D’ that clearly stipulated that the web content should be non-plagiarized content then why this confusion. Why this delay in owning up?

But at the same time that we join our hands in demanding that our content not be plagiarized we have an even bigger responsibility on our hands. How many times have we been guilty of breaking copyright laws????

How many times have we stood in line at our local Indian grocery to grab a CD of the latest Malayalam movie? Sometimes the movie is a camera print and sometimes it is a DVD rip. How many times have we downloaded mp3 music of latest Indian movies from internet sites – burned CDs for our own collection and made copies for our friends. If we haven’t done it then we have watched and remained silent when our closest few have indulged in such acts. I believe as Indians we tend to take democracy to a completely different level of ‘freedom to do anything’.

At this important juncture when we stand together for a cause let us make a pledge that just as we stand against plagiarism we will hold our ethics close to our heart and will not break copyright laws. We will respect another man’s right to his content and expect the same from others.

Do we have it in us to take this fight to the next level???

........I am back... Lets join our hands together on march 5th.

So you are not going to take part in the discussion, but me prefer watching how it is going. I think they may be putting some bloggers to oppose us or oppose our ideas, right?

Maneka, Agreed. 100% As an example, When the British came and treated us like second class, we first had to fight them, then erase the evils in our society. It works that way better!

What is this thing about WebDunia on March 2nd ? Did they send you a mail to be a part of some discussion ?
Why don't you participate and give out the blog address so that we can go and give our comments ? Or is it a private blog ?
March 5th it is for us all

Inji,

I have been following this in your blog. And I'm not very surprised by Yahoo!'s behaviour.

Have you and others been taking any efforts to take it to the Malayalam Media back in Kerala? I'm confident the Kerala media and people would vociferously express their opinion and would stand behind the bloggers. Please do share the links if any news articles have appeared abt this.

Thanks.
