Thank You Series - I

Once upon a time, I googled for 'Moong Dal Sprouts' and was awe struck by what I saw.It was Open Sesame for me. An array of golden recipes made at home by a wonderful lady. Oh, Food Blogs? How come I, who thought of myself, as tech trend savvy, never ever, heard about this?

Then, I looked to the right side of her blog and discovered a whole new World, a welcome peek at a lot of fantastic kitchens! I am still awestruck by many of the creations by my dear blog buddies (Some of them have gone on to become my twin, my fairy, my sister, my dear friends)!

If one thing my husband approves of me doing is browsing food blogs, he is happy and excited like a kid at all the new dishes his wife is making. He has declared, "Now you have started to learn cooking"! Ah! Men! (rhymes with Amen! ;0)

The best part of food blogs is that you can ask the blogger your doubts about a particular recipe, which is like catching upon the basic training I missed with my mom and grandmom.

These are a few of those recipes I tried. There are many in my folder. But to start with…I used to make idlis and dosas before, but lovely Kitchenmate taught me to make the perfect idlis and dosas I have tasted, just like those I have had in Tamilnadu.
Idli Recipe : 4:1 (boiled rice: uraddal). Soak them overnight, grind urad dal first and rice separately. Her tip: Sprinkle water to the urad dal while it is grinding, which makes the dough very fluffy and the idlis soft like a flower.
Dosas
Darling RP's Salsa was finished off by my guests at the same speed of a salsa.
Strawberry Salsa

Saffron Hut's spectacular food pictures make any simple recipe look like an exclusive affair.Besan Burfi

And last from the Queen's blog:) .I have made so many dishes from Indira's blog I surely can't list them all, this one I remembered to take a picture.
Aloo Chole
Once again, thank you my dear buddies for being there with me in my culinary journey.

Oh wow!! Those idlies are so white and beautiful. I use our red rice for making idlies, so I don't get that color. We like it with red boiled rice. Good to know that you liked the salsa. So people in Florida eat chips n salsa with a fork? ;) Saffron's besan burfi is in my must try list too. But I have a doubt, do you turn off the stove as soon as you add the sugar? or do you cook until the sugar melts and turns to a syrup? How long did you cook? What is the consistensy of the final mixture before you spread it to the pan? Aloo chole looks heavenly. We can never go wrong with Indira's recipes.

My dear LG: I remember your first ever comment on my blog, it was on 'aloo chole' recipe. Wasn't it? When you started your own blog with that introductory post about me, I thought wow, did I attract a stalker?:) You can see how reserved I am in my reply to your wonderful post. No more, you are numero uno. You can kid all you want about your culinary powers, but I know you have a good sense of cooking.

Every recipe you tried looks wonderful. You mentioned that hubby dear is enjoying your tries very much. Wouldn't it be lovely if he returns the favor with a domain all your own. I think it is time to move to your own domain. What do you think?

LG, I felt the same way. I googled for the recipe of Kothmir vadi and I found Nupur's blog and then one of the links took me to Indira's. Now what can I say my day begins and ends with me looking at all the updates. Very thoughtful blog.

I had a similar oddessy as you - I didn't even know all these wonderful blogs existed a year ago!

I always cooked Indian cuisine a bit (I'm not desi), but now it's probably 75% of what I cook - and more remarkably almost every one of the recipes has been wonderful. They soothe, comfort, startle and just make me happy! I am so thankful that all of you wonderful bloggers share your recipes with the rest fo us.

Oh, LG, Thanks for the mention! and your mention makes lil uncomfortable since I think the ratio is very common:)
I tried aloo chole - exceptional taste, as well as besan burfi... and taste was good but not actually, I melted ghee, did add besan flour.. stirred and it formed all lumps around... i continued stirring, thought ghee not enough, so add a tsp full again.. things seemed to be looking better and it became fluid-kind and i couldn't find any good smell coming (is the besan stored long..oh,, not really!) and then i stirred in sugar and my pathetic story continued.. sugar never melted and feel the granulated sugar all along and it became paste-like(may be some sticky dough kind) and the whole mass was kind of sticking to my spatula... and i stirred for some time and all time i could feel sugar in my spatula(never melted).. then finished off in a tray... I am not sure what went wrong? taste would have been great if I never tasted sugar crystals:(
I am definitely going to try RP's
strawberry salsa!

A great post, LG. And a selfless title. I like the openness with which you write about and praise fellow food bloggers. Btw, I think it's high time I started taking photographs for my round-up posts.

bindootti, starry nights, revathi, nv,Sarah -- thank you so much for your kind words :)

vineela, please come..but dont forget to take those desserts you make :)

archana, really? that makes me feel real real good.

Shynee, thank you for you kind words. I am really really thankful.

sumitha, thank you. If you are there to encourage like this, who will not?

rp, actually the first time i made it came out perfect and everybody loved it,second time it became crumbs. so I have asked saffron hut what to do. The first time I when the sugar was added,as soon as it melted (due to the besan,it doesnt turn to a syrup) and I took it from the flame and pressed it hard and cut it. It came out good. Second time did the same, but it didnt. dont know why.

indira, hehehe, really? If I am going to stalk someone, surely it will be you! :) I actually have a reseller account and can easily get a domain name etc. But I am lazy and moreover when someone is providing this free, why bother? :)

krithika, mine too..thank you :)

shankari, they are just great!

linda, since my fellow bloggers had already made this, I was so confident. thanks :)

diane, those are very very sweet words. Thank you soo much :)

kitchenmate, i think we should wait for saffronhut to return to get it cleared out. The first when it came out good,it was really really good.

vaishali, Oh! thank you. I really really do mean it!
