A JFI Event started by our dear Indian Food Blog Queen Indira and the super cool ingredient choice by our cutest Bee – and you thought I would have only one entry?
Jackfruit Seeds are edible portions of the jackfruit. They have a nutty taste. I had some left over Jackfruit Seeds and some drumstick leaves. Jackfruit seeds which bee roasted are of ripe jackfruit. You roast only ripe jackfruit seeds. With the raw jackfruit, you don’t normally do that.
This is a simple delicious thoran. Acutally it tasted so good, I snacked on it than eating it with rice :)
Scrape jackfruit seeds, slice it into long pieces and cook them with salt and turmeric. – 1 cup
Crush ½ cup coconut, 1/3 cup shallots, 5 green chilies, 1 sprig of curry leaves, 1 tsp cumin seeds, 3 pods of garlic, salt and turmeric.
Mix this with the cooked jackfruit and add the washed and squeezed drumstick leaves.
Cover and cook in low flame until the drumstick leaves are cooked.
Serve with rice or roti.

inji, that looks awesome.
i like the way you casually say ,'i had some jackfruit seeds left over' and 'also some drumstick leaves'. do you know how may people would give their right arm for these two things?
your 'post a comment' caption is too light again. one has to search for it. can you make the font darker, please?
Inji,
Looks delicious, I never use drumstick leaves .

My grandmother cooked a lot with Drumstick leaves a lot,had trees in the estate.Love the Thoran with those.Btw,how many Thorans do you know?;D
chakkakkuru with padavalanga is also a good combination. i love that...
Queen? it sounds like an epithet. Please, no more of this queen nonsense. It's so British.

Inji in one way it is good we are living abroad, where we have learnt to appreciate the food we ate at home.Back home in Kerala noone wants chakka kuru anymore, arkum athu clean cheythu menakedan kazhathilla:(
Drumstick leaves too ? I have never had the leaves, the flowers we love though. So your Mom sent the leaves too ?
Inji-I see that you are from TX. Do you get ripe jackfruit or its seeds there?
Your entry looks so good. I have never made something like this with drumstick keerai. I buy the frozen jackfruit seeds. I think they are from green jackfruit... But they are tasteless and such a waste of money.
Oh Inji,
You know what I asked my mom to do for me when i go to India? Jackfruit seeds poriyal. This is my absolute favorite. I have never tried it with drumstick leaves. I have added it to my "dishes to impress my MIL" list. Thanks for posting this.
Injiii where the heck did you find the muringa ila? Do you run a smuggling ring or something? Send some my way, or start an internet shop to sell these :)
I'm planting a drumstick tree just so I can try this -- in a few years, I guess! Looks really tasty :)
